RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Chilean Latinobarómetro firm has published the results of its annual survey on democracy in 2021, having surveyed 17 Latin American countries between October 26 and December 15, 2020.

The document notes that “the countries with the highest support for democracy in the region are Uruguay (74%), Costa Rica (67%), Chile (60%), Argentina (55%), Bolivia (54%) and the Dominican Republic (50%).

Regarding citizens’ indifference to the regime, Uruguay (13%) is among the countries with the lowest indifference, along with Chile (12%) and Argentina (14%).

In Uruguay, on the other hand, 70% of respondents would not support a military government “under any circumstances.” However, it is noted that “rejecting the military is one position and supporting a non-democratic government if it solves the problems is another.”
