RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “On International Anti-Corruption Day, we recognize Paraguay’s progress in this area and we urge citizens, the private sector and the press to demand greater transparency and efficiency in the fight against this scourge. United against corruption,” the U.S. diplomat said on social networks.

The representative took part in the International Anti-Corruption Day celebrations, where a conference entitled “Growing challenges for the country: fight against corruption and money laundering” was held, organized by the Development Institute with the support of the Central Bank of Paraguay, the National Anti-Corruption Secretariat, Seprelad and USAID.

Salazar highlighted the country’s potential in terms of natural resources and human capital to be exploited to achieve its comprehensive development. He also pointed out the need to mitigate the risks of corruption and money laundering. “It is a task that befalls all sectors, as all are players and creators of the legacy for the next generations,” he added.

The training and exchange sessions came to an end with this event, aimed at helping Paraguay’s economy to become increasingly competitive and resilient to the scourges of corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing.
