Train incident in Brazil’s Serra do Mar leaves nearly 1,000 passengers stranded
A train carrying 22 cars and 946 passengers experienced an interruption in Paraná’s Serra do Mar region between Curitiba and Morretes, Paraná’s coastal area, on Thursday (13th).
Serra Verde Express, the operating company, detected trees and branches obstructing the railway, forcing the train’s return journey to Curitiba to be halted.
The passengers departed from Curitiba at 8 am on Thursday for a four-hour trip. Originally planned to spend the day in Morretes, their plans were abruptly changed at 11 am.

Passengers voiced their concerns about the lack of information and the difficult situation they found themselves in.
In an interview with the newspaper Boa Noite Paraná from RPC, one passenger expressed their distress: “Many of us are here without food or water. We need help urgently. We have children and elderly individuals with us; this is not a joke.”
“We lack water, food, and knowledge of what’s happening. No action is being taken, and nothing is being done. I don’t know what will happen.”
Serra Verde Express released a statement acknowledging the incident and highlighting their commitment to passenger safety and comfort, even in challenging circumstances.
They provided food and water to the passengers, prioritizing the elderly and children.
The company also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured passengers that they would facilitate their return to Curitiba.
“To ensure proper and safe transportation, we arranged buses and vans,” stated Serra Verde Express.
They also mentioned that teams were present in Morretes, the trip’s intended destination, to offer necessary assistance and minimize the inconvenience caused by the temporary interruption.
