São Paulo records 2 deaths from yellow fever after two years
Two deaths from yellow fever have been registered in the state of São Paulo since 2019.
The first victim was a 44-year-old man living in São João da Boa Vista, located about 220 km from the São Paulo capital, who died in late April.
The diagnosis was confirmed in mid-May through an alert released by the state government.
The second death occurred in São Paulo, but the person was a resident of Minas Gerais.
From January to March 2023, the vaccination coverage for yellow fever was 82%.
In 2022, this percentage was 64.4%.
Yellow fever infection is carried by wild mosquitoes, which live in the forest and do not live in the urban environment of cities.
Yellow fever is an acute infectious disease, immuno-preventable, with rapid evolution and high mortality in its most severe forms.
It presents symptoms such as sudden fever, chills, headache, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and weakness.
It has a seasonal pattern, with most cases occurring between December and May.
