Rio’s vaccination schedule advances to include 37 to 39 year olds

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The calendar starts today, July 12, with women aged 39, and continues tomorrow with men of the same age.

On Wednesday, July 14, women aged 38 will be immunized, and men in this age group on the following day. On Friday, July 16, women aged 37 will be administered the first dose, and men will follow on Saturday.

“Rio begins another very important stage of vaccination against Covid-19. The thirties age group begins to be vaccinated,” posted yesterday Municipal Health Secretary Daniel Soranz on Twitter.

For pregnant and postpartum women, who have had a child up to 45 days ago, and breastfeeding women, the Municipal Health Secretariat reserved Wednesday, July 14, for their vaccination.

The Ministry of Health has defined this week that rescheduling is restricted to people with disabilities, who may seek vaccination posts between today and Saturday.

Rio’s City Hall celebrated the goal reached this weekend, with 90% of the population aged 40 to 49 vaccinated with the first dose.

On Saturday 43,598 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered. The city hall highlighted that the population now needs to keep in mind their vaccination booklet and return for the second dose as scheduled.

Influenza

Influenza vaccination schedule has been extended until August 30. As of Wednesday, the vaccine will be extended to the general population from 6 months to 60 years of age, who may attend Primary Care units, such as Family Clinics and Municipal Health Centers to be immunized.

To prevent crowds in health facilities, the staggering by age groups should be observed.

According to the calendar, between today and July 28 people from 6 months to 17 years of age will be vaccinated against the flu. Between July 21 and 30 people aged 51 to 60 years will be immunized.

People aged between 41 to 50 will be vaccinated from July 28 to August 10. Between August 10 and 18, people aged 31 to 40 and from August 18 to 30, people aged between 18 and 30.

Immunization exclusively for priority groups such as the elderly over 60, children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant and postpartum women, indigenous and quilombolas, people with comorbidities or permanent disabilities continues until Wednesday.

Health and education workers, truckers, collective and long-distance transport workers, port workers, prisoners, adolescents under socio-educational measures, and employees of the prison system, security and rescue forces, and the Armed Forces are also covered.

According to the Municipal Health Secretariat, anyone who has been vaccinated against Covid-19 must wait 14 days to be administered the flu vaccine.
