Saturday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Rio’s Árvore de Natal (Christmas Tree) will be lit this evening at 8:30 PM accompanied by a spectacular fireworks show to mark the beginning of Christmas.
The inauguration was delayed after the tree was damaged but now it is repaired the event will be even more festive.
The tree floats Rio’s lagoa, which provides a beautiful backdrop. Carols play out over the water and the tree will light up through all its various phases. This year it is themed around “Christmas Renewal” and the forthcoming Olympics.

Head to Rio’s Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas to see the city’s fifty-three meter floating tree light up and begin its laps of the lake. The best view is from the Ipanema end of Avenida Epitácio Pessoa or from the Parque de Patins in Jardim Botânico. Arrive early to ensure a good spot.

DJ Marcelo Sabre is on the decks upstairs from midnight while Forró with Cassiano e Trio Beija-flor begins at 2:30 AM on the first floor.
