Rio’s Jacarepaguá Airport Hosts Commercial Shuttle Flights to São Paulo
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Able to handle 400,000 passengers per year, the terminal, managed by Infraero, did not previously operate regularly scheduled flights, but rather served air taxi companies, aviation schools, and offshore platform flights.
Ponte Barra (“Barra Shuttle”) is operated by TwoFlex Aviação Inteligente Ltda., and connects Barra da Tijuca in Rio’s westen zone to Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo, in approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
The company’s president, Rui Aquino, points out that the goal is to serve more than 700,000 Barra da Tijuca residents as well as the surrounding region.
“It is a panoramic flight, along the coast of the two States, lasting a little over an hour, which mainly caters to and benefits professionals and executives on business trips between Rio and São Paulo”.
Due to the reduced airport capacity, which has a 900-meter long airstrip, the air shuttle will use small aircraft — Cessna Grand Caravan, able to hold up to nine passengers.
The line will operate from Monday to Friday, with three daily scheduled takeoffs, in both Rio and São Paulo. Tickets are available through Gol’s sales channels.
Initially, prices range from R$607.89 (US$152) to R$838.89 each way, including the boarding fee.
