Neoenergia S.A., a leading Brazilian energy company and subsidiary of Spain’s Iberdrola, released its fourth-quarter 2024 financial results on February 17, 2025, revealing a nuanced performance in a challenging energy market.

The company posted a consolidated net profit of R$ 852 million ($142 million) for the October–December period, marking a 12% year-over-year decline from R$ 989 million ($165 million) in Q4 2023.

Adjusted for non-recurring items, net profit stood at R$ 1.387 billion ($231 million), reflecting a smaller 5% drop and highlighting the resilience of its core operations.

For the full year of 2024, Neoenergia’s net profit fell 19% to R$ 3.635 billion ($606 million) from R$ 4.491 billion ($749 million) in 2023. The decline stemmed from factors such as the expiration of high-margin contracts, tariff adjustments in distribution networks, and rising operational costs.

Despite this, the company achieved robust revenue growth and continued to invest heavily in infrastructure and sustainability projects. Neoenergia’s net revenue surged by 15% in Q4 2024 to R$ 12.844 billion ($2.141 billion), up from R$ 11.169 billion ($1.861 billion) in the same period the previous year.

This growth was driven by increased energy demand due to higher temperatures and an expanding customer base, which grew by 307,000 to reach 16.5 million consumers across its five distribution subsidiaries.

Neoenergia’s Financial Performance

For the entire year, net revenue rose by 10% to R$ 46.680 billion ($7.780 billion), reflecting strong market demand. The company also reported an 8.2% increase in injected energy during Q4 2024, reaching 22,102 gigawatt-hours (GWh), while distributed energy rose by 8.5% to 18,918 GWh.

These figures underscore Neoenergia’s ability to meet growing consumption needs while advancing renewable energy initiatives. Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) grew by 8% in Q4, reaching R$3.077 billion ($513 million).

For the full year, EBITDA increased by 1% to R$12.517 billion ($2.086 billion). This steady growth reflects operational efficiencies and disciplined cost management despite inflationary pressures.

Neoenergia’s net debt increased by 10% to R$ 43.220 billion ($7.203 billion) by year-end, driven by aggressive investments in network expansion and transmission projects. Capital expenditures totaled R$ 9.811 billion ($1.635 billion) for the year, marking a 10% rise from R$ 8.919 billion ($1.487 billion) in 2023.

While profit margins faced pressure in 2024, Neoenergia’s revenue gains and investment momentum demonstrate its commitment to long-term growth amid Brazil’s evolving energy landscape.
