Peruvian Cuisine Expo on Sunday, April 19th in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Expo Ceviche Rio 2015 will celebrate Peruvian cuisine and culture in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday, April 19th. Taking place from 12PM to 7PM in Casa de España, located in the neighborhood of Humaitá, the expo will feature food offerings from six Rio and São Paulo restaurants and will include live music, dancing, a workshop and various other activities in celebration of Peruvian culture.

Presented by the General Consulate of Peru in Rio de Janeiro in partnership with the Counsel of the Peruvian community in Rio de Janeiro, the expo is named after the ceviche dish, a traditional seafood dish in Peru that is popular around the world.

O Intihuasi, the first Peruvian restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, will participate in the event and for the expo, the restaurant’s chef, Margarita Sayan, developed two special dishes: Ceviche de Lenguado, which will be available for R$15 and Choros a la Chalaca for R$10.

Additional expo participants include the El Nuevo Sabor Latino restaurant, the Dona Keka cupcake shop, La Dulceria, Aleja, and Rinconcito Peruano.

The expo’s workshop will take place at 1PM on Sunday and will explore the history of the ceviche dish and the diverse gastronomy of Peru. There will also be a class which teaches the preparation of classic ceviche and a lecture about available Peruvian products in Brazil. The lecture will include a Q&A with the audience.

Entertainment during the event will include a live performance by Laura Valle and Sérgio Valdeos at 2PM and a live performance by the group Grupo Negro Mendes at 4:30 PM. Additionally performing at various times throughout the expo will be the Sayari traditional dance group, Carmen Escudero, and DJ Rayado.
