Lula da Silva on Bolsonaro: ‘I will not systematically persecute anyone’
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) told journalists that he will not carry out systematic persecution “against anyone”, not even against former president Jair Bolsonaro.
“I don’t want to make this my mandate. My mandate is different, it’s not fighting Bolsonaro. It’s fighting hunger”, said the PT leader. “I don’t want to convey the idea of persecution.”
Even so, Lula da Silva, who said he did not want a “Palace of PT members”, stated that he is carrying out a “deep screening” of the Planalto Palace team so that no “root Bolsonarists” remain.

“We want to turn into a civilian cabinet,” declared the president, criticizing the presence of military personnel in the Executive headquarters, who should be replaced by career civil servants.
“I also don’t want to make a persecution process because one day (someone) was a lavajatist“, he pondered.
Lula’s concern is with his safety. He reported that the driver of former GSI minister General Heleno said he would like to kill him.
“Here in Brasilia there was a lot of suspicion of the behavior of the commanders of the military police”, said the president, citing last Sunday’s coup acts.
“If the guy voted for Bolsonaro, that’s his right. If he’s a career employee and provides services with righteousness, why can’t he stay? I want to have a palace of serious people, who work, and who fulfill their duties. That’s how it’s going to work”, said Lula da Silva, about the “screening” of officials at the headquarters of the Executive.
