Funes Mori Joins Pumas, Declines Grêmio Offer

Fernando Ortiz, Monterrey’s coach, has confirmed that their striker Rogelio Funes Mori is joining Mexican club Pumas.

This move comes after Grêmio, a Brazilian club, showed interest in him. Now, Grêmio is looking for other players in the market.

Funes Mori has chosen to continue his career in Mexico, where he has played since 2015. He agreed to a two-year contract with Pumas. Soon, he will go to Mexico City for his medical check-up.

Ortiz shared that Funes Mori made his own decision to join Pumas. He respects his choice and keeps good relations with all his former teammates.

The negotiation had several changes. Monterrey’s president, Tato Noriega, initially said Funes Mori hadn’t accepted Grêmio’s proposal.

Later, Jailton Oliveira, representing Monterrey in Brazil, thought the deal was almost done.

However, Pumas successfully completed the signing. Funes Mori, an Argentine-born Mexican national, has been with Monterrey since 2015.

His career also includes time at River Plate, Benfica, and Eskisehirspor-TUR. In 2022, he played for Mexico in the World Cup.

During his time at Monterrey, Funes Mori scored 159 goals in 328 games. In the current season, he played 17 matches, scoring seven goals and making two assists.

Grêmio, on the other hand, is now focusing on finding a goalkeeper for the 2024 season. They continue to build their team for future challenges.
