Fernando Caruso to Emcee the TALKS on Thursday, June 9th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, June 9th, The Rio Times is hosting their second “TALKS” speaker series event, bringing together a panel of experts in three areas regarding the Rio 2016 Olympics; organization, tourism and immigration issues (visas). The latest addition to the line-up, thanks to Brazil 101: Comedy for Gringos, is the amazing opportunity to have Fernando Caruso, a famous Brazilian comedian and actor to be the host and emcee.

Fernando de Oliveira Caruso is an actor, comedian, director, musician and author of Brazilian theater, who anyone watching television in Brazil will recognize instantly for his hilarious skits and pranks.

Among other exploits, Caruso is the host of the Multishow De Cara Limpa (Clean Face) program and also writes and stars in the comedy show Estranha Mente (Strangely), portraying sketches of humor based on different situations, whether real or surreal.

He became involved in the TALKS event through the Brazil 101: Comedy for Gringos comedy production, led by American expatriate and comedy producer Kim Levone.

She explained in an earlier interview about the creation of the comedy production, which is available for corporate or group booking, “Brazilian comedians [are] very enthusiastic about performing in English. They [are] eager to perform for the foreigners who are coming into Brazil for the games.”

Adding the best feeling of success comes from, “the comedians! They pull together funny, clever material about Brazil, in English – and they keep it mostly clean. The result is part ‘guide to Brazil’ and part stand-up comedy show. But it is one hundred percent hilarious.”

Caruso will open the TALKS event with some stand-up comedy, and introduce the speaker panel, as well as emcee the evening as it moves through question and answer periods. Event manager for The Rio Times, Daniane Mary, explains, “We are so excited to have Fernando joining, he is hilarious and so recognized in Brazil, we think it will really make the event special.”

The first speaker is British expatriate Philip Wilkinson, the international media manager for Rio 2016, who is joining in an unofficial capacity. After his experience working on the last three Olympics, and now living in Rio since 2013, Wilkinson will talk about the organization of the Games in August, and share the latest about ticket sales, and transportation for both press and spectators.

Next will be Roshni Thakker from XperienceRio, a premium travel and tour company based in Rio de Janeiro that began operating in 2010 when American born Thakker fell in love with the city. She will speak about strategies and opportunities for making the most of the nearly 500,000 foreign tourists expected to descend on Rio between August 5th and 21st.

Last but not least will be American expatriate Michael Royster, who is a Brazilian lawyer since 1992, and managing partner at Royster Advogados Associados living in Rio for nearly forty years. Royster will talk specifically about the visa waiver for tourists and what conditions people should be aware of.

Entrance to this event will be limited to fifty places, and a guaranteed seat requires pre-purchasing a ticket for R$50 online. If seating is still available on the night of the event, entrance will be R$80 (cash only).
