Ex-Minister Weintraub announces his return to Brazil and adopts electoral stance

By · January 12, 2022 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the United States since mid-2020, former Education Minister Abraham Weintraub published on a video on social networks announcing his return to Brazil on Saturday, January 15.

In the 40 second video, Weintraub uses a combative electoral discourse, particularly against São Paulo governor João Doria.

Weintraub had been testing his name for the São Paulo state government.

In the video, the ex-minister uses images to criticize the lockdown, associating health restrictions with the dictatorship, uses images of police actions, and, for a few seconds, the image of Doria during one of his press conferences.

A lockdown was never implemented in São Paulo during the pandemic – only tight restrictions – and the current governor of São Paulo is a presidential pre-candidate for 2022.

A member of the most ideological wing of the government, the ex-minister may run against current Minister of Infrastructure Tarcisio de Freitas, the person President Jair Bolsonaro has been testing among his supporters for the post.
