EMBRAER to test full-scale flying car later this year

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Startup Eve Urban, a subsidiary of Brazilian aircraft manufacturer EMBRAER, will conduct the first test with its full-scale flying car later this year, sources close to the company reported.

A miniature eVTOL, as the electric vehicle for vertical take-off and landing is called, was successfully tested by Eve in March this year. EMBRAER expects its car to be flying and on the market by the end of the decade.

The goal is for the vehicle to be an alternative to helicopters: smaller, quieter and autonomous. But in addition to the car being ready, many regulations will also be needed for flight permits, stations and charging, helipads, etc. Worldwide, it is estimated that there are over 200 flying car prototypes under development, but no more than 6 companies are expected to achieve certification, meet the regulations, and mass produce the car.

EMBRAER is clearly focused on being one of these six companies, and last year took the project out of EmbraerX, its innovation arm, to create startup Eve and thus accelerate investment.
