Do you want to travel abroad now? Countries where you can (or cannot) enter from Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Traveling abroad is made difficult in times of pandemic. Everyone is afraid of everyone, but some brave countries have nevertheless started to release foreign tourists’ entry, including some of the most sought-after destinations, such as Switzerland, Spain, Germany, and France.

This resumption of travel is due to the momentary drop in the number of cases and deaths from Covid-19.

But beware, this trend is already changing again in some countries, such as China or Israel, where infections increase despite vaccinations.

Many promises made by the pharmaceutical lobbies have turned out to be untrue. In the beginning, the promise was one shot, and all is good, then it was two shots, and now there are three needed. Self-proclaimed specialists say that everything is under control, but one may doubt it.

We list below the travel rules today in a number of countries, but these can change at any time due to the volatile situation regarding Covid-19 infections and deaths despite mass vaccinations.

PEOPLE SPEND MORE, FOR NOW

One of the consequences of this movement is that Brazilian tourism spending abroad increased by 69% in July compared to the same period in 2020, but is still far from that in 2019, before the pandemic: US$452 million now, compared to US$1.9 billion in July two years ago.

DESTINATIONS:

Argentina

The country remains closed to tourists of any nationality until October 1.

Uruguay

Brazilians continue to be generally prevented from entering the neighboring country. In early August, President Luis Lacalle Pou announced that the country’s borders would be reopened to all vaccinated foreigners with a negative PCR test as of November 1.

Mexico

There are generally no restrictions for Brazilian tourists. It is not even necessary to present a PCR test.

Colombia

There are no testing requirements or restrictions for Brazilians entering. However, travelers must complete an online form in advance.

Peru

Individuals coming from Brazil, India, and Africa (or who have stopped over in these countries in the past 14 days) will not be allowed to enter Peru until at least September 5.

Ecuador

Since July, the country has been open to vaccinated tourists, but this does not apply to travelers from Brazil or India. Brazilians must endure a 10-day quarantine in addition to a negative PCR test 72 hours before flying, regardless of the test result.

Chile

Non-resident aliens are generally prohibited from entering the country. Chileans and resident aliens must also undergo a quarantine upon their return to the country, which lasts seven days as of September 1.

United States

Most Brazilian travelers are prohibited from entering the United States. The alternative is a 14-day quarantine in a country not subject to U.S. restrictions – Mexico is one of the most popular options.

Canada

Canada promises to open its borders to foreigners who have been fully vaccinated (two doses or a single dose) 14 days before entry, beginning Sept. 7. Caution is advised, however, as the Coronavac vaccine is not currently one of the vaccines approved by the Canadian government. The other alternative is to impose a 14-day quarantine.

Anguilla

The country began accepting vaccinated foreigners on July 1. However, the second dose (or single dose) must have been administered at least 21 days before the flight, and Coronavac is not currently on the list of vaccines accepted in the country.

Bahamas

Travelers from Brazil who are not vaccinated may enter but must provide a negative Covid test up to 120 hours before travel. Fully vaccinated individuals (at least 14 days in advance) must present a negative test, which may be a rapid test. Coronavac is not yet listed among the vaccines licensed in the country.

Barbados

Brazilian tourists, whether vaccinated or not, must endure a seven-day quarantine at a local hotel. On the eighth day, they undergo a test to be cleared for tourism.

Belize

Vaccinated and unvaccinated Brazilians can enter the country. However, they must present a negative PCR test conducted at least 96 hours earlier or a negative rapid test conducted at least 48 hours earlier.

Australia

Generally, all tourists are currently banned from entering the country.

New Zealand

The country’s borders are currently closed to most foreign tourists.

Portugal

Brazilians can now only enter Portugal for travel deemed necessary, meaning tourists are still denied entry. However, there is one exception: vaccinated Brazilian tourists can travel to Madeira Island. If not vaccinated, a PCR test is required.

Spain

As of August 24, quarantine is no longer required for Brazilians vaccinated at least 14 days in advance. All immunization agents currently used in Brazil are accepted.

France

Unvaccinated Brazilians may enter only in emergencies. However, entry is free for those who have been vaccinated. In the case of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, the second dose must have been administered at least seven days before entry. For the Janssen vaccine, the deadline is four weeks. Coronavac is not among the approved immunization agents to date.

Italy

Most travelers who have been in Brazil in the past 14 days are still not allowed to enter Italian territory.

Germany

The country opened its doors to Brazilian tourists who are already fully vaccinated on August 22. At that time, Brazil was considered a “high-risk area” rather than a “variant of concern.” The Coronavac vaccine is still not licensed for entry.

Switzerland

Also, in June, the country reopened its doors to Brazilian tourists who had been vaccinated (with the two doses or a single dose) in the 12 months before their trip.

United Kingdom

Brazilians, whether vaccinated or not, must endure a 10-day hotel quarantine before entering the country. During this period, they must take two Covid 19 tests – in addition to the test taken three days before travel.

Thailand

The country opened Phuket Island, the country’s largest island, to fully vaccinated foreigners from 70 countries in July, but this list excludes Brazilians.

China

Brazilian travelers must present a negative PCR test taken 48 hours before leaving for China. There, they must undergo a 14-day quarantine.

Hong Kong

Brazilians are considered a high-risk group there. Even if they are fully vaccinated, they must endure a 21-day quarantine and undergo six tests. Surveillance continues after the quarantine.
