First half 2021 demand for domestic flights in Brazil up 7% over 2020

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Demand for domestic flights registered a slight increase of 7% in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period last year when the airline industry was most heavily affected by the pandemic.

Demand is calculated as the ratio between the number of passengers and the routes they travel. Despite the increase, demand for domestic flights remains below pre-pandemic levels and is down 41% compared to the first half of 2019.

In contrast, the number of paying passengers has remained stable, rising from 23.7 million in the first six months of 2020 to 24.1 million this year. The average load factor of flights was 78%.
