Colombian Armed Forces head affirms they will continue bombing terrorist camps

The commander general of the Colombian Armed Forces, General Helder Giraldo, affirmed that the country would continue with aerial bombardments against terrorist camps, particularly those of the National Liberation Army (ELN), given that President Gustavo Petro’s order not to attack settlements where there is evidence of the presence of forcibly recruited minors is not a total prohibition.

Giraldo, as reported by the local media Silla Vacía, commented to the commanders of all military units in the country that not all bombings had been canceled, as it is a legitimate operation when directed against targets of high strategic value, and asked his subordinates to intensify the search for this type of targets but “shielding” the missions by making sure that there are absolutely no minors or civilians in the terrorist camps.

“It does not imply leaving aside military action; what we are going to do is to generate the required protocols and legal shields to comply with the Government’s intention”, explained the commander.

NEW PUBLIC SECURITY POLICY

In the course of the radio program, the new 18 strategic guidelines through which the new public security policy, called Human Security, will be implemented were also announced, highlighting among them that the operations affecting the command and control structures of the illegal organizations are aimed at protecting the civilian population from the actions of these criminal groups.

In addition, it was detailed that security measures will be strengthened to continue to ensure the tranquility of the territories where the illegal terrorist groups are present, and that military efforts will be developed -based on military intelligence- to anticipate actions that may restrict the freedoms of the population.
