There will be a debate about harassment in cinema with the actress and director Helena Ignez, honored at the festival.

Rio’s State Secretariat of Culture announced a R$75 (US$14.4) million investment until the end of 2021. Of this total, R$60 million are the result of the law creating the State Fund for Culture, in operation since last year. Another R$15 million will come from the resumption of the agreement with the federal government.

According to undersecretary of Planning and Management Vítor Côrrea, another R$38 million will be available this year for new investments.

The first planned initiative of the Cultural Pact is the recently launched “Cultura Presente Nas Redes 2” public notice. With quotas proportional to the population of each city and 60% of funds earmarked for the interior, the call will allocate R$7.5 million to 3,000 projects, receiving R$2,500 each.

Corrêa says that in September a broad public notice for the resumption of Rio de Janeiro’s culture and a line focused on urban murals should be launched. In October, the traditional peoples and artists with disabilities segments will be included. “We want to attend all segments, because culture is still very much paralyzed,” he says.

Despite having secured R$6 million in sponsorship from Vale and Petrobras, Theatro Municipal do Rio has accessed only R$476,000 of the amount. “We are not using these resources yet because the analysis of the federal incentive law projects has been halted,” says Clara Paulino, head of the Fundação Theatro Municipal since January. She says that she does not rely on the funds to maintain activities, but some own production shows would be compromised.

After conducting a health study, the Rio Municipal Theater is planning to reopen its on-site program in October. The air conditioning systems will be sanitized and alternately turned on during performances. More employees have been hired for daily cleaning. The 2021 season has been underway since May on digital networks. On-site shows were resumed in June.

Concert venues and music artists’ manager Opus Entretenimento launched an investment fund to raise R$260 million, in partnership with XP Asset. The company believes that the concert market will return with high repressed demand. “We expect to grow in 2021 by 200% to 300% compared to 2019,” said vice president of Opus Lucas Giacomolli.

TV and film director Helio Goldsztejn leads the series “Papo de Arte,” with 11 programs featuring cultural celebrities. Among the interviewees are Maria Adelaide Amaral, Milton Hatoum, Tata Amaral, and Lília Schwarcz. It debuts on Monday, at 8 PM, on the #culturaEmcasa platform (www.culturaemcasa.com.br).
