Brazil: Rousseff failed to return items from personal collection, TCU indicates 

Two table clocks, a wooden platter, and a painted tapestry panel, are among the items that former president Dilma Rousseff has not returned to the Union.

According to the Administration of the Presidency of the Republic, six gifts were not located in the personal collection.

The Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) ordered the search for the items still in 2016.

However, in 2020, the Union’s technical unit told the body that the gifts were not found.

At the time, the value corresponded to almost R$5,000. The former president did not pay the amount.

In 2020, after attempts at collection, Judgment 1577/2020 decided to dismiss the collection.

“Concerning former president Dilma Rousseff, despite the collection attempts, the collection of the indicated amount is not included in the process,” indicated the organ in 2020.

The TCU decision considered that the value of the six items incorporated into Dilma Rousseff’s collection – not located at the court’s request – was of low materiality.

“Thus, as the total related to the missing assets of former President Dilma Rousseff was of low materiality, it was not up to the TCU to change this value,” the court explained.

• Wooden platter from the manufacturer Muskoka;
• Table clock with circular stainless steel case from the manufacturer Val Saint Lambert;
• Table clock fixed on a wooden stand with pen holder;
• Tapestry panel (measuring 162.5 x 110 cm) showing a man playing a musical instrument by artist J. Fortes;
• Detached painting (measuring 88x68cm) depicting a black woman with a pot on her head and a child on her back, with the inscription “Povo Heriro” (Hero People)

Throughout her mandate, from 2011 to 2016, Rousseff incorporated 144 goods received in ceremonies abroad and in Brazil into her personal collection.
