Embratur sources confirmed that Brazil received 2.3 million tourists residing abroad, more than in the same period of 2019 and 2020.
Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur, stated that “the international community understood that the Brazil of democracy, diversity, and sustainability is back, with open arms.”
From January to March alone, international tourists left more than US$1.7 billion in the country, said Freixo.
Argentina has been the largest issuing country, reaching one million tourists in Brazil.
The southern states were the most sought-after, highlighting Foz do Iguaçu, one of the most sought-after destinations by international tourists.
The Central Bank of Brazil specifies that Brazil has recorded US$1.703 billion in tourism revenue, a figure representing foreign tourists’ spending in the country, still 6% below that of the first quarter of 2019.
Regarding spending by foreign tourists in Brazil, it was close to pre-pandemic figures.
