Presidents of Bolivia and Nicaragua land in Cuba for ALBA-TCP Summit

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Bolivian leader arrived late Monday night and in a brief speech stressed that Cuba has taught that solidarity “is not to give what is left over, but rather to share the little that one has.”

“Today, the Cuban people need us and here we are with 15 tons of food and 5 tons of medicines in a second delivery of humanitarian aid to our sister nation,” Arce tweeted.

“Faced with the tightening of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States on our sister Republic of Cuba, Bolivia’s response will always be more solidarity and more social justice for our peoples. Cuba is not alone!” the Bolivian head of state asserted.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega landed at dawn and was welcomed by Cuban Minister of Higher Education José Ramón Saborido, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean director Gustavo Daniel.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the Prime Ministers of Grenada Keith Mitchell, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves, among others, are also on the Caribbean island.

Within the framework of the 17th anniversary of ALBA-TCP, the heads of state and government will discuss plans to continue strengthening the regional forum’s cooperation, solidarity, independence and sovereignty.

The organization’s Executive Secretary Sacha Llorenti said last Monday that the 20th Summit will also address the issue of interference, as well as the illegal economic, financial and trade sanctions imposed by the United States on the peoples of the region.
