After Covid-19, Brazil’s energy crisis is concern for Rio’s industry – FIRJAN

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A number of entrepreneurs linked to FIRJAN – the state of Rio de Janeiro federation of industries – fear that after the pandemic two new situations may hamper the progress of business: the energy crisis and the shortage of components.

With hydroelectric plants’ water reservoirs at historically lows, there is growing concern about an energy crisis for next year.

According to Marcelo Kaiuca, president of the Business Council of Tax Affairs at FIRJAN, there is optimism with the end of the pandemic, but the moment still calls for caution.

“The more people are getting immunized, the more the economy is moving as the population is going out and spending again,” he said in an interview published in FIRJAN’s ‘Carta à Indústria’ magazine.

According to Kaiuca, “the greatest concern of managers involves other factors that prevent the activity from taking off, such as the potential energy crisis and the shortage of inputs.”
