Police killing of drug trafficker prompts outbreak of vandalism in Manaus

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Fourteen buses and 2 police cars were set on fire and destroyed early Sunday morning in the Amazon city of Manaus in retaliation for the killing of a drug
trafficker by the police, the state government said.

Bus services were suspended until reinforced police patrols could be deployed in the city, which has been severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Amazonas State Security Secretary Colonel Louismar Bonates said in a statement that the order to set fire to public vehicles came from within the prison where the drug lord leaders are being held.
