Brazil’s Public Prosecutor’s Office defends Bolsonaro’s ineligibility
Brazil’s Public Prosecutor’s (MPE) came out in favor of the ineligibility of former president Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday 12, reported CNN Brazil.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office is the Brazilian body of independent public prosecutors at the federal and state levels. It operates independently from the three branches of government.
The body understood that there was an “abuse of political power” by Bolsonaro when he questioned the Brazilian electoral system during a meeting with ambassadors at the Alvorada Palace last year.
The manifestation, signed by the deputy prosecutor general, Paulo Gustavo Gonet Branco, was delivered to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

The action in which the document was sent is under secrecy, by determination of the general corregidor of the Electoral Justice, Benedito Gonçalves.
The final opinion of the MPE, which came soon after the most recent manifestation of the defense of the former president, suggests that the investigation is over.
It is now up to Justice’s rapporteur of the action to present his report on the case and write his vote.
It is up to the president of the TSE, Justice Alexandre de Moraes, to set a date for the trial of the former president.
Abuse of political power is an illegal conduct practiced during an election campaign.
It occurs in situations in which the accused takes advantage of his position to act in such a way as to influence the voter.
The punishment for this illicit act is ineligibility for eight years when the politician cannot run for elections.
