Brazil: anesthesiologist raped woman giving birth

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – International media reported an inexplicable crime in a hospital in Brazil, where an anesthesiologist was arrested after discovering that he raped a sedated woman who was giving birth by cesarean section.

According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the subject was identified as Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, while the events occurred at the Women’s Hospital in Rio de Janeiro last Monday, July 11.

The crime was uncovered after nurses there decided to secretly videotape Quintella Bezerra after becoming suspicious of his behavior for months.

On that day, the man had been in two more surgeries; however, the nurses could not obtain the images during the victim’s operation.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, there is evidence that this was not the first time the professional had committed a crime like this.

According to the nurses’ account to the police, they were suspicious of the anesthesiologist because he had used stronger sedatives on several occasions with “very young women”.

It is further described that during the operations, the anesthesiologist was separated from the rest of the team by a large dark cloth, being the only one who looked at the patient’s face while the rest of the team supported the surgery.

That is why one of them decided to record what happened that Monday. One can see in the video that the man pulled down his pants and introduced his genitals into the mouth of the sedated woman lying in the operating room, with her companions a few meters away.

The professionals indicated in the testimony that the crime continued for 10 minutes until the man ejaculated.

“At a certain point, the anesthesiologist takes his penis out of his pants and puts it in the patient’s mouth while looking sideways repeatedly. The violent act lasts about ten minutes. In the end, the anesthesiologist wipes the victim’s face and his penis with a handkerchief,” said the Rio de Janeiro Prosecutor’s Office.

A complaint was filed, and the authorities arrested the man at the same hospital. He is currently in preventive custody.

After the crime became known, another 23-year-old woman denounced the anesthesiologist, assuring that the anesthesiologist raped her during a cesarean section on July 6.

“The patient would have left the operation doped up and would only wake up the next day… An unknown white substance would have been found in the woman’s neck”, they detail.

The case has generated commotion in Brazil. Quintella lost his license to practice medicine and could spend the rest of his life in jail.
