Brasília is working on deadline for Bolsonaro’s return to Brazil
The government is working on a deadline for former President Jair Bolsonaro to return to Brazil.
If Bolsonaro doesn’t return from his stint in the United States by the end of March, the government will begin discussing with the Supreme Court (STF) a way out for the former president to respond to the lawsuits in which he is investigated.
One of the most advanced cases involves the electoral system.

The former president is suspected of improperly inviting foreign ambassadors to the Planalto Palace in July 2022 to cast doubt on the smoothness of the elections.
PUNISHMENT
The expectation is that Bolsonaro will not be arrested when he returns to Brazil.
The chance is that the former president will be ineligible, according to someone knowledgeable about the matter.
If convicted, the former president would be barred from participating in the 2026 and 2030 elections.
This restriction would be in effect until 2031.
And, losing the 2030 election cycle, Bolsonaro would have to wait until 2034 to run for the presidency again.
