Bolivia’s YPFB explores possibility of exporting gas to Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The president of Bolivia’s state-owned Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), Armin Dorgathen, signed Memorandums of Understanding with the Brazilian companies Compass Comercialização S.A. and TotalEnergies Gás & Eletricidade, to evaluate the possibility of creating a strategic alliance to make the commercialization of Bolivian natural gas to Brazil viable.

“The objective is clear, to accommodate our product in the best market and at the best possible price. Bolivian gas is one of the most competitive. We will work with high-level partners such as Compass and Total,” Dorgathen said.

According to information provided by the state-owned oil company, the economic and commercial conditions will be analyzed so that YPFB, together with both companies, can reach the end-user and consumers of natural gas in Brazil and, in this way, improve the economic conditions in the commercialization of the energy.

Compass is the largest distributor of natural gas in Brazil, and Total is the second-largest producer of hydrocarbons in this market; therefore, the strategy that can be implemented as a result of the analysis and evaluations that this Memorandum entails will represent an advance in the commercialization of natural gas for the Bolivian state-owned oil company.

“The three of us meeting together can do a fantastic job and build a long-term vision,” said Sérgio Luiz da Silva, representative of Compass.

“It is essential to start this relationship with YPFB. Bolivian gas has its place in the Brazilian matrix, and we will collaborate to market the Bolivian gas in the best way in Brazil,” said Thibault Sabatier, director of Gas Eletricidade Brasil for TotalEnergies.
