Assembly of the largest Ferris wheel in Brazil begins in São Paulo

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The city of São Paulo has begun construction of the largest Ferris wheel in Brazil. It is expected to be operational by June 2022, covering an area of 4,500 square meters. The new attraction in São Paulo’s capital is located on the banks of the Pinheiros River in Cândido Portinari Park, next to Villa Lobos Park.

According to the company responsible, the Ferris wheel has a unique, lightweight design and is supported by cables or guy wires specially designed to blend into the cityscape.

It will be 90 meters high and have 42 observation cabins with space for up to ten people, air conditioning, camera surveillance, intercom, and Wi-Fi. The structure will also have scenic lighting designed to interact with the city.

In total, the structure will weigh over a thousand tons and will require the use of the largest road crane available in Brazil. The assembly will be carried out with due care to ensure safety and not interfere with visits to the Park.

The site is well served by a rail line that connects to the subway, buses, and fixed bike lanes and bike paths established on Sundays and holidays. It is expected to attract 600,000 to 1 million visitors per year or about 10% of current park visitors.

The project is part of the measures to revitalize the area around the Pinheiros River and aims to expand the recreational offer for the population.

In total, the structure will weigh over a thousand tons and will require the use of the largest road crane available in Brazil. The assembly will be carried out in compliance with all safety precautions and in a way that does not interfere with visits to the Park.

The São Paulo Ferris wheel will be located on the banks of the Pinheiros River.

The installation of the equipment is financed by private initiative. The responsible company will pay R$ 141 thousand per month or 10% of gross revenues (whichever is higher) to the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment (SIMA) to operate the service in the area. The amounts are transferred to the Park’s administration.

São Paulo is building its own Ferris wheel, but the attraction is already part of the daily life of tourists in several cities around the world. The largest operating in Brazil today are Yup Star in Rio de Janeiro, and Foz do Iguaçu, which are 88 meters high.
