A JD Vance visit to Argentina is being prepared for November, according to reports published on Thursday 1 October 2026. Infobae said official sources in Washington confirmed the trip, though not its date, venue or agenda.
La Nación reported the same plan from sources familiar with the tour. Argentina’s government acknowledged the contacts but stopped short of a formal confirmation.

What Buenos Aires and Washington have said
A spokesperson at the Casa Rosada, the seat of Argentina’s presidency, called the visit “a possibility”. The same official said there had already been “a first advance” to plan it, La Nación reported.
“The intention for him to come is there,” government sources told the paper. Officials declined to name a date, saying they are waiting for the US government to announce the trip.
Infobae, reporting from Washington, said a formal meeting with Milei is expected. It added that the agenda has not yet been confirmed. Neither outlet gave a reason for the trip beyond bilateral relations.
The first vice-presidential visit since 2017
If it goes ahead, it would be the first visit by a US vice president in almost a decade. The last was Mike Pence in August 2017, who was received by then president Mauricio Macri.
Vance and Milei already know each other. They met when Milei visited the White House in October 2025, where he held talks with President Donald Trump.

Infobae lists the financial ties since then. The Trump administration offered a US$20 billion support package before the October 2025 midterm elections. A bilateral trade agreement followed a month later.
In March 2026 the US Treasury announced about US$7 billion in financing for infrastructure and commodity exports, according to the same report. These figures come from Infobae and were not separately confirmed by La Nación.
Alignment with Washington, and its limits
Milei made 17 trips to the United States in his first two years in office, Infobae counted. The paper contrasted that with his few visits to neighbouring countries.
In September 2026 Milei joined Trump at the United Nations for the Shield of the Americas. That is a White House-led security coalition against drug trafficking. In a March speech to Congress, Milei called Trump “a key ally”.
For Buenos Aires, a JD Vance visit would signal continued US political backing as the government seeks investment. The risk is concentration: much of Argentina’s foreign policy now rests on one partner and one administration.
A crowded November calendar
The trip would land in a busy month. Pope Leo XIV is due in Buenos Aires and Córdoba from 8 to 11 November. That four-day programme will absorb much of the government’s attention.
La Nación said the Vance visit would also fall in November, but no source has said whether the two will overlap. Officials have not commented on scheduling.

What Is Not Yet Known
The date, length and cities of the visit are not public. Neither government has published an agenda, and the White House had made no announcement as of Thursday afternoon.
It is also unclear whether any financing, trade or security agreements will be signed during the trip. Both reports describe the visit as still being planned.
