Angolan Industrial Production rose 3.8% in the 3rd quarter of 2022
The Angolan Industrial Production Index (IPI), for the third quarter of this year, registered a variation of 3.8% compared to the same period of 2021, mainly influenced by the increase in the Production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, with 7.4%.
According to the provisional result of the IPI survey, carried out by the Angolan National Institute of Statistics (INE), the variation was also influenced by the increase in the capture, treatment and distribution of water and sanitation, with 4.8%, extractive industries, with 4.1%, and manufacturing industries, with 2.4%.
The document, consulted today by the Lusa agency, underlines that compared to the previous quarter, industrial activity recorded a variation of -1.3%, influenced by the activity of production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, with -6.8%, and extractive industries, with -1.6%.

“The index of persons in service, during the 3rd quarter of 2022, registered a growth of 3.1% in relation to the 3rd quarter of 2021 (year-on-year variation) and of -1.0%, when compared to the 2nd quarter of 2022 (quarterly variation)”, reveals the survey.
The survey also indicates that the index of hours worked registered, in the same period, a year-on-year variation of 3.3% and a quarterly variation of -0.6% and that, analyzing the index of industrial production by type of goods, it was verified It is noted that energy products, in the third quarter of 2022, were the ones that recorded the highest year-on-year change, with 4.3%.
The IPI is carried out, by INE, on a quarterly basis, in 398 establishments selected at national level, with emphasis on the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Cabinda, Benguela, Huíla, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Uíge, Zaire, Huambo, Namibe and Bié.
The province of Luanda, with 201, has the most establishments in the sample, representing around 51% of the total.
Of the 398 establishments surveyed during the period under review, 355 responded, which corresponds to a response rate of 89%, considered in statistical terms of good coverage.
The survey aims to know the structure, growth and productivity of the industrial sector in Angola in the reference period, produce basic statistical information for national accounts, Government, international organizations, academics, businessmen and other users.
