Paleontologist Paulo Macedo, from the company Geopac Consultoria Ambiental, announced the discovery of 80 million-year-old egg fossils, possibly from dinosaurs.
During highway work, the discovery occurred in October 2022 in Monte Alegre de Minas, 601 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
The find, however, circulated again on social networks after a video went viral.
In an interview with the newspaper O Estado de Minas, Macedo said the rare and well-preserved nest was under sedimentary rocks called sandstones.
Ecovias do Cerrado, responsible for hiring Geopac, took the fossil to the Paleontology Laboratory of the State University of Minas Gerais, Ituiutaba campus.
It will keep it for safekeeping and scientific studies for publication.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 80 MILLION-YEAR-OLD EGGS
The eggs are more elongated than those of a chicken.
They measure between 5.5 and 6 centimeters in length, and the shell is less than 1 millimeter thick.
Macedo compared the eggs with similar eggs found in other countries, such as Argentina.
He found that the dinosaurs that laid the eggs belonged to the titanosaur group.
