Tuesday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Every Tuesday, pianists play a repertoire of classical themes and modern bossa nova, samba-jazz, jazz and mpb in their original arrangements. Leo Freitas, a veteran pianist has been accompanied by artists such as Fátima Guedes, Pepeu Gomes Baby do Brasil and others. This night of smooth sultry sounds happens at Santo Scenarium, located in Centro.
Tonight Leo will be joined by Luiza Sales, a music teacher turned professional singer. Sales won a talent Ccontest sponsored by Samba Carioca da Gema in 2009 and, like most locals singers, has performed in various venues in Lapa, where she experiments with samba and forró. In 2012, she released her first CD, which was derived from strong Brazilian and jazz influences.

Dj Marcelinho da Lua keeps things real at this weekly vinyl only party at Studio RJ. Everyone knows that vinyl is king and therefore must be heard loud and direct. Come hear classic hits from a variety of genres played well.

Matriz Sessions (Botafogo)
Casa Matriz is well known in Rio for being one of the first late night venues to host live music and DJs. The original programming has returned as the house fires up Matriz Sessions, featuring local and out of town bands.

With two locations in Copacabana, Mud Bug providing a great selection of beers and a menu as well. There isn’t much missing from this American style staple. Also expect to hear live jazz, blues, MPB and rock from time to time.
