Thanksgiving Dinner in Rio at the Gringo Café: Sponsored

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 27th this year and once again the Gringo Café in Ipanema is preparing for their immensely popular and successful Thanksgiving Dinner weekend. Each year more-and-more expatriates and Brazilians are finding their way to the eatery due to the the authentic American holiday meal and the sense of community in Rio.

Sam Flowers, American owner of the Gringo Café tells The Rio Times what’s on the menu this year: “We always focus on the classics and of course make EVERYTHING from scratch using traditional recipes.”

Adding “Roast turkey both white and dark meat, homemade turkey gravy, our famous stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and cranberry sauce. Plus we’ll make Pumpkin Pie for dessert as well as offer our top selling red velvet cake, cheesecake and carrot cake.”

The holiday event at the Gringo Café has turned into one of the restaurant’s signature events of the year. “We get great feedback every year that people really feel like they were ‘home’ for Thanksgiving and so the popularity increases every year.”

Flowers explains, “The first year we had a nice crowd of about thirty people. Each year number of people has doubled and so we now start serving at noon and also offer the full meal throughout the entire weekend.”

Reservations have always been strongly recommended for the holiday meal, and for those that have not been able to get a table in the past, the Gringo Café has added some options. “We can prepare full dinners or even just parts of it for pick-up.” Flowers adds, “Many people order turkey, gravy, stuffing, etc. and then take it home to eat later. We also will offer the Dinner throughout the weekend following Thanksgiving.”
