Karaoke Rocks in Rio at the Lapa Irish Pub: Sponsored

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Karaoke is the kind of fun that goes naturally with the lively spirit of a friendly pub, where locals and travelers mix it up with libations and a microphone. The Lapa Irish Pub has been hosting a weekly Wednesday event for over a year and the popularity has been drawing regular crowds of would be, could be, and not-likely musical stars.

American expatriate and owner of the Lapa Irish Pub, Bob Fetterman, talks about the mix of talent that shows up on stage for the RockOKÊ! (Karaokê Rock) event. “People like to sing, no matter what country you’re in. The Pub has all nationalities show up for Karaoke.”

Under the new ownership of Fetterman since September of 2012, the pub has been building the following at the already successful venue, which originally opened its doors in 2009. Helping make the Wednesday events a success has been a karaoke mainstay in Rio, Estudiokê-Karaokê. Bob Fetterman explains, “Our Karaoke is done by Estudiokê-Karaokê and uses the in-house sound system at the Pub.”

In Rio of course there is an international mix of talent and musical interests, Fetterman describes: “Everyone seems to have there own favorite song, but with Estudiokê-Karaokê having over 400,000 to choose from including Brazilian and English you can sing a long time without repeating songs.”

The Lapa Irish Pub staff always helps get the crowd in the mood with the inspired array of international beer. On draft is; Heineken, London Pride and Guinness and for the longnecks; Heineken, Stella Artois, Budweiser and Dos Equis XX. Other specialty beers are categorized by nation. From Ireland there is Wexford Irish Cream and selections from the UK include; Suffolk Strong, Old Specked Hen, and Newcastle Brown Ale. From the Czech Republic there’s Pilsner Urquell and from Belgium the selection includes; Deus, Tripel Karmeliet; Chimay; and Leffe Blonde among others.

As far as as the Karaoke, Fetterman adds, “I always enjoy when several people (or the whole audience) joins in and sings together. This week with Thursday being a holiday, the Pub is expanding the time for karaoke and we will be singing from 7PM until 2-3AM.”
