The strike in the São Paulo subway system entered its second day on Friday, March 24.

Lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red, and 15-Silver (monorail) are still paralyzed.

The 4-Yellow and 5-Lilac lines are operating normally, as are all the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM) services.

Because of the strike, transfers from CPTM to the Metro remain closed.

The vehicle rotation system is still suspended.

The São Paulo City Hall and the State Government gave the public servers an optional day off.

According to the state government, a meeting between the subway and union members is scheduled for 7 am.

ORIGIN OF THE STRIKE IN THE SÃO PAULO SUBWAY

The subway workers’ union demands the payment of the Profit Sharing “salary bonuses” for 2020, 2021, and 2022, revocation of layoffs due to retirement and other dismissals in 2019, “end of outsourcing,” and the opening of public competition.

Metro said that it had made efforts to meet the demands but that the company’s economic reality does not allow the payment of the bonus.

PARALYZATION WAS STOPPED IN COURT

Metro reported having obtained an injunction determining the operation of 80% of the service during peak hours (from 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm) and 60% during other hours.

Despite the victory against the unionists, the company was fined R$100,000 by the Regional Labor Court, for anti-union conduct, by vetoing that the striking employees operate three lines with free turnstiles without charging fares.
