Rock in Rio Will Celebrate City’s 450th Anniversary

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Rock in Rio’s Sunset Stage, famous for its innovative shows, will close the 6th edition of the event in Brazil on September 27th with a special celebration of Rio de Janeiro’s 450th anniversary this year. The show will honor the city’s history and culture with a performance of chorinho, samba, hip hop, rock, pop and funk.

The concert will include famous Brazilian artists like Alcione, Buchecha, Davi Moraes, Fernanda Abreu, Gabriel O Pensador, Léo Jaime, Maria Rita, Roberta Sá and Wilson Simoninha, all accompanied by a large band. Zé Ricardo, the musical director of the performance on Sunset Stage, said that the show will have music that showcases the beauty of Rio.

“We will have a selection of music that only talks about Rio, focusing on musical diversity and neighborhoods, both in visual content, as in the repertoire,” said Ricardo. “It will be a Carioca concept, modern and light, so the public can dance and have fun.”

Along with the music, the performance will include a picture show that features the images of photographer Marcos Hermes on three different screens. The images, like the music, will portray Rio de Janeiro in all its geographical plurality, the spirit of Carioca culture, and characteristic symbols of the city.

Rock in Rio will be celebrating it’s own anniversary this year as well with thirty years of history. The festival will take place in what will be the Athletes’ Park at the 2016 Olympics, the City of Rock, in Barra da Tijuca on September 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th.

Official ticket sales have closed, but some are available through re-selling sites, such as Comprei e não vou. When going through such sites make sure that the tickets are legitimate and sold under the original price, because selling above the original price is illegal in Brazil.
