Several parliamentarians in Peru have asked to declare the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), ‘persona non grata’, in response to his support for former Peruvian president Pedro Castillo, removed from office and detained after attempting a coup d’état.
The main promoter of this petition is the congresswoman for Renovación Popular party Gladys Echaíz, who has also demanded that López Obrador not get involved in the internal affairs of Peru, as reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘El Universal’.
Echaíz has asserted that only Peruvians are in a position to resolve the sovereign affairs of the Andean nation, and that “no one else should interfere.” Likewise, she has highlighted that it has been “the relatives themselves” of Castillo who “have betrayed him.”

In this sense, the parliamentarian has criticized López Obrador’s statements that the Peruvian Congress of the Republic has had “discriminatory expressions” against former President Castillo.
On the other hand, congressman Ernesto Bustamante, a member of Fuerza Popular and former president of the Congressional Foreign Relations Commission, has called on the current president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, to “break diplomatic relations” with Mexico.
“What are you waiting for (…) to break diplomatic relations with the Government of Mexico and send that senile imbecile AMLO rolling,” Bustamante said on his official Twitter profile.
