Panama has 34.4% of its population vaccinated against Covid with one dose

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Up to July 24, Panama was ranked along with Colombia, Mexico and Costa Rica among the countries in which over 30% of the population has been covered with one dose of the anti-Covid vaccine, said PAHO in its most recent report quoted by the Ministry of Health (MINSA).

The document also stated that approximately 16% of the population is “fully inoculated” with the two doses vaccine doses.

Since the national vaccination process began in Panama on January 20 with the delivery of the first batch of Pfizer vaccines, a total of 2,408,895 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Panama, both from Pfizer and AstraZeneca, according to official figures.

Panama has received 3,463,150 vaccine doses: 27 Pfizer batches totaling 2,944,750 and 4 AstraZeneca shipments with 518,400 doses, according to the figures reported by the Ministry of Health.

Since last week mass vaccination campaigns have been conducted in several provinces of the interior of the country and in sectors of the capital city, using the screening technique (search) for people aged 16 and older.

The Central American country on Thursday registered 1,022 new Covid-19 cases and 7 deaths, one of them from a previous date, reaching 433,545 confirmed infections and 6,798 deaths in the pandemic’s 16 months.

A total of 100 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 447 in wards, while 11,771 people are in home isolation and 329 in hotels.

Yesterday, 12,646 Covid diagnostic tests were performed, yielding an 8% positivity rate. To date, 3,346,454 tests have been performed in Panama.
