RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Showing free to the public on a screen at Copacabana Beach, Alfred Hitchcock’s film “Pleasure Garden” begins the Cinema Na Praia (Movies on the Beach) section of the Rio Film Festival at 8PM on Thursday, October 4th. The classic movie was made in 1926 as a silent film with the original soundtrack by David Cohen.
The music for the Thursday showing held near the famous Copacabana Palace, will be performed live by the Brazilian Symphony Youth Orchestra lead by British conductor, Christopher Austin.
The famous James Bond will grace the beach screen on Friday, October 5th, with the showing of the 1962 film “Dr. No” at 8PM. A classic film directed by Terence Young and staring Sean Connery as Bond and Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder.
Both films are also part of the Rio Film Festival’s UK Focus, a partnership with the UK council to strengthen ties between the two countries.
Films playing in other venues as part of this section include: “Great Expectations” with Helena Bonham Carter, “A Liar’s Autobiography-The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman” and Michael Winterbottom’s “Trishna”.
The beach screenings continue at Copacabana on Saturday, October 6th at 7PM with Alvaro Diaz and Pedro Peirano’s “31 Minutos – O Filme” and at 9PM with “O Palhaço” with Selton Mello. Ending with Carlos Saldanha’s “Rio” on Sunday, October 7th at 8PM.
