Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg Returns to Rio on April 29th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Imperator Centro Cultural João Nogueira in Meier will host Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg on Friday, April 29th. While Marky Ramone has worked with multiple artists and has been a member of many bands including Richard Hell & the Voidoids and Dust, he is best known for his fifteen years with the legendary punk band The Ramones.

In 2015 Marky released his autobiography, “Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life As a Ramone”. Born Marc Steven Bell, he began his career playing drums with the rock band Dust in 1971. Bell, would later go on to join The Ramones, replacing original drummer, Tommy, in 1978. Changing his name to Marky Ramone, he remained with the group through 1983 and then returned in 1987 and performed with the group through 1996.

“I did five albums before I joined the Ramones, so there’s other history also involved and other bands that I played in,” Ramone told the Hollywood Soapbox in a 2015 interview when speaking about the autobiography.

“But the main story, obviously, the bulk of the book, is my experience in, you know, the Ramones and up until now. So it’s a very comprehensive book because of the time that I spent in the group.”

As a member of the Ramones, Marky helped to produce famous singles that include “I Wanna Be Sedated”, “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School”, and “Pet Sematary.” All singles that he is known to also perform live with the Blitzkrieg band.

No stranger to Rio de Janeiro, Ramone and the Blitzkrieg band have performed in the city many times, including as part of the 2013 Rock in Rio lineup; in 2014 at Lapa’s Teatro Odisséia; and in 2015 as part of the Converse Rubber Tracks Free Show series.

Imperator Centro Cultural João Nogueira is scheduled to open at 8PM on Friday, April 29th for the show.
