RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – It will be a night of great local indie rock as Rio singer-songwriter Cícero and Rio band Baleia return to perform live at Circo Voador in Lapa tonight, (Friday, April 22nd). For the show on the 22nd, Cícero will perform in support of his third studio album, entitled A Praia and Baleia will officially launch their second album Atlas, which was recently released online.

The band Baleia currently consists of members Sofia Vaz, Gabriel Vaz, Cairê Rego, Felipe Ventura, David Rosenblit and João Pessanha. The group’s 2013 debut Quebra Azul was well-received by critics. The album’s eight songs featured sounds that the group referred to as “post-minimal,” and pop, jazz, and folk influences could be heard throughout.

Baleia’s follow-up, Atas goes deeper with more complex arrangements and a more intense drive. “There is a remarkable difference in feel between this record and Quebra Azul, its predecessor,” Move website wrote about the album in a recent review.

“No composition of this second work is the lightness of tracks like ‘Casa’ or ‘Jiraya.’ What predominates the album is an atmosphere of tension and suspense, wonderfully represented by dissonant first half of “Volta” with its riff insistent and urgent violin.”

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Cícero Rosa Lins performs under his first name only. Cícero first entered the world of music with the band, Alice, a group he formed at age sixteen. Although they did develop a small following, the group disbanded in 2009 and Cícero began his solo career.

In 2011, Cícero released his debut album entitled Canções de Apartamento (Apartment Songs). The album was well-received by both critics and fans. It was downloaded over 100,000 times during the first month of its release.

Steadily building a fanbase across the country and beyond with his slow to mid-tempo songs with introspective lyrics, Cícero followed up with the release of Sábado (Saturday) in 2013.

In 2015, Cícero released A Praia (The Beach). Fans can expect to hear songs from all three of Cícero ‘s albums during the show on the 22nd.
