Latin America market for mergers and acquisitions down 40% in the first half of 2022

The Latin American market for mergers and acquisitions recorded a 40 percent decline in transaction volume to US$50.094 billion in the year’s first half. At the same time, the number of transactions remained stable at 1,621.

This is according to a “Transactional Track Record Report” published on Tuesday (19) in collaboration with “Datasite” and “AON”. The private equity segment closed June with 83 deals, of which 33 transactions had a total non-confidential amount of US$4.711 billion, a decrease of fourteen percent in the number of deals and a decrease of forty-seven percent in the number of deals.

Venture capital had 528 deals in the first half of the year, 425 of which had a total non-confidential amount of approximately US$5.619 billion, representing a nine percent increase in the number of deals and a thirty-four percent decrease in the amount of capital raised.

Brazil topped the ranking of the region’s most active countries in the first half of the year with 1,130 deals, an increase of three percent, while capital raised was down forty percent year-on-year at US$31.294 billion.

In second place is Mexico, with 191 deals (up five percent), with a year-on-year decrease of thirty-two percent to US$7.438 billion.

Regarding cross-border transactions, the report shows the investment appetite of Latin American companies abroad, especially in Europe and North America, with 42 transactions in each region.

The companies that carried out the most strategic transactions in Latin America were from North America, with 308 operations, followed by Europe with 207, and Asia with 46.
