Increasing tourism in the U.S., with a significant proportion of Brazilians

By · July 18, 2023 · 2 min read

In the first half of 2023, approximately 710,000 tourists from Brazil visited the United States, per data from the US Department of Commerce’s National Travel and Tourism Office.

The aim is to reach 1.5 million Brazilian visitors by year’s end.

Brazil contributes about one-third of the 2.1 million visitors from South America, making it the fifth largest source of tourists, excluding Mexico and Canada.

Other major sources include the United Kingdom (1.7 million), India (815,000), Germany (785,000), and South Korea (722,000).

June witnessed 127,000 Brazilian visitors in the US, making it the second-highest month after January.

The total international visitor arrivals in the US reached 22.7 million in June, a 19% increase from June 2022 and near pre-pandemic levels.

However, overseas visitor arrivals, excluding Mexico and Canada, stood at 73.2% of 2019 numbers, indicating persistent challenges of long-distance travel, such as visa issues and higher flight costs.

On the other hand, US residents traveling abroad rebounded to 7.5 million in June, a 9.5% increase from June 2019.

The leading destinations include Mexico, Canada, the UK, Germany, and the Dominican Republic.

The major US ports of entry for international travelers in June were JFK, LAX, MIA, EWR, and SFO.
