This study is conducted annually by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), an Australian research center focused on assessing issues of geopolitical conflict, public security, and sustainable development that is a partner of the World Bank and the UN.
In this 2022 edition, the champion received 1,107 points for insecurity, the lowest index worldwide – while the globe regressed by 0.3 percent in terms of peace, according to the organization.
However, the Icelandic situation is stable: the country has been considered the safest in the world since 2008.
Between 2021 and 2022, the country still saw a 55% decrease in violent demonstrations on its streets, which proves that the situation there keeps improving.
There are 163 positions, with Afghanistan occupying the last position five years ago.
Iceland also offers other attractions besides safety. There, it is possible to see the Aurora Borealis and scenarios from the series “Game of Thrones”, walk near volcanoes and even dive between tectonic plates.
