Exhibit Opens at MAC in Niterói, Interacting with Niemeyer Architecture

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Museu de Arte Contemporânea (MAC, or Museum of Contemporary Art) in Niterói, is exhibiting the work “Varanda Circular”, by artist Leonardo Tepedino starting today, Saturday, March 11th, until June 4th.

It is the first exhibition of the year (2017) in the iconic space designed by the renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.

The Varanda Circular exhibition leads the public to follow paths opened by the work of art, which articulates in a physical and symbolic way with the unique scale of the museum’s architecture.

For Tepedino, the visitor will be able to enter the work and determine its routes from the deviations placed by the sculpture.

“From the installation of a new reality built with my material, the exhibition opens a sculptural field to be experienced by the observer,” Tepedino was quoted in a government news source.

“This sculptural reality is a body accommodated by the reality of the architectural body, in the scale of confrontation with the human body, available to be experienced by the observer, circulating through this new space and this new time become physical, constituting the act of circling around Of the sculpture,” the artist said of his work.

Graduated in architecture and master’s degree in art history from the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Leonardo Tepedino has worked in the studio of the sculptor Luciano Fabro, Italian artist exponent of the so-called Arte Povera.

Completed in 1996, the Oscar Niemeyer designed Niterói MAC overlooking the Guanabara Bay in the neighborhood of Boa Viagem, serves not only as a visual landmark but also as a thriving art and cultural center for the city across the bay.
