Colombia, Brazil, and Peru end operation Bracolper 2022 in the Amazon region

The navies of Colombia, Brazil, and Peru have concluded the 2022 edition of the multinational operation Bracolper after three months of continuous joint exercises.

During these exercises, approximately 15 missions were carried out to exchange intelligence information, surveillance, and control of biodiversity and the environment, integrated action days, and standardization of procedures to facilitate interoperability, strengthening the tactical capabilities of the three naval institutions.

The exercises were divided into three different operational phases, the first between July 19 and 26, the second between July 27 and August 2, and the third between August 30 and September 8.

The actions were carried out between the river ports of Iquitos (Peru), Leticia (Colombia), and Manaus (Brazil), with tactical units from the Colombian Southern Naval Force, the Brazilian Ninth Naval Warfare District, and the Peruvian General Command of Amazonian Operations being deployed for this purpose.

OPERATIONAL PHASES

On this occasion, the operation was developed by sailing through the Amazon River (common to the three countries) to carry out joint exercises between the vessels of the three navies, facilitating communication maneuvers, formations, flashes, and amphibious landing, among several others, which will be carried out throughout these months.

During the first and second phases, the ships sailed between the ports of Leticia and Iquitos, carrying out exercises in communications, semaphores, flashes, cargo transfer, detection, interdiction, and patrolling.

For the third phase, navigation took place between Leticia and Manaus, carrying out maneuvers for landing troops on land, live fire tests, and photoex with all the units involved.

The objective of Bracolper is to exchange knowledge to strengthen the navies’ capabilities in their fight against transnational threats and common crimes (drug trafficking, environmental exploitation, fauna and flora trafficking, illegal mining) in the border areas of the Amazon region.

Bracolper is an example of the excellent relations between the naval forces of these nations, which continuously strengthen their cooperation ties in security and defense matters.
