China and Mexico explore new opportunities for cooperation in energy sector

Representatives of energy institutions from China and Mexico held today, Tuesday, an exchange meeting that seeks to promote partnerships and explore new opportunities for cooperation between the two nations to contribute to the transition to clean energy and sustainable development of the Latin American country.

During a round table discussion, business people, directors, and industry researchers presented the current situation of their companies and institutions. They expressed their willingness to collaborate with other parties to address the challenges of the Mexican energy system.

The meeting, which took place in the Mexican city of Cuernavaca (Morelos, central Mexico), took place within the framework of the Mexican Committee of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), an international entity that promotes sustainable global energy development and whose headquarters are located in Beijing, China.

Abigail González Díaz, Director of Mechanical Systems at Mexico’s National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL), said that the purpose of this meeting is to begin a series of collaborations with companies that have been working alone and could achieve significant results in favor of climate change through cooperation.

“Working together, I think we will do a better job in clean and renewable energy,” said González Díaz.

The director also hoped that the Mexican Committee could contribute more significantly to promoting exchanges and cooperation in the energy sector between China and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Leonardo Ramón Alvarez Larrauri, Deputy Director of Network Business of Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), said that countries such as China have significant experience using renewable energies, so it is essential to collaborate and exchange experiences.

According to Alvarez Larrauri, the meeting is an occasion to discuss cooperation opportunities in developing energy projects in Mexico with Chinese and Mexican companies and institutions.

For his part, the founder and director of Solarever, Zhao Ziqiang, stated that his company, as a promoter of the energy interconnection concept, has been driving the widespread use of distributed renewable energy through technological development and commercial practice.

In turn, the general manager of Power China’s Mexico office, Ma Guoqiang, said his company is willing to deepen cooperation with local enterprises and institutions and actively participate in constructing Mexico’s energy and power infrastructure.

Representatives from China Energy Engineering Group’s office in Mexico, SPIC China’s Zuma Energy, Huawei’s regional headquarters in Latin America, and the Mexican Wind Energy Association established contacts for further concrete negotiations on collaboration.

Specialists from the Mexican Institute of Water Technology and the Institute of Renewable Energies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) also participated in the event.

In addition, attendees visited the hydrogen, energy storage, electric mobility, and electronics laboratories and facilities of INEEL. This Mexican public research center focuses on developing solutions for the energy sector, particularly on clean and renewable energies.
