Carioca Cricket Club Hosts Quiz Night August 24th in Rio: Sponsored

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Carioca Cricket Club (CCC) in Rio de Janeiro is preparing for a social event on Thursday, August 24th, bringing back their popular quiz night format, this time hosted at the Aquarela do Leme Hostel in Leme starting at 7:30 PM.

The event has an entrance price of R$20, as the club is helping raise money to send the Brazil U13 & U17 kids to the South American Championships in Chile later this year.

The quiz night format itself is team-based, and guests can bring their own or be put together at the event. There will be ten rounds of questions, and prizes at the end for the winning team, plus lots of laughs all around.

In other news, the CCC just announced regular nets (training) on the Lagoa Baseball Diamond planned for every other Sunday afternoon, between 3-5PM. The last session was this past Sunday, August 20th.

Club chairman and English expatriate, Tobias Hanbury explained, “The CCC has struck a deal with the Rio Baseball Association in which we will contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of the diamond, and in return have the right to practice cricket there twice a month, on Sunday afternoons.”

Adding, “We are hoping that in the summertime we will also be able to organize after-work nets on weekday evenings. This will bring cricket right into the heart of Zona Sul [South Zone], and help raise the standards of cricket for our weekend matches in Itaguaí.

The CCC’s next inter-club game on Saturday, September 2nd, hosted at their grounds at the São Fernando Polo and Cricket Club near Itaguaí. As always the open event will be a family affair, promising plenty of cricket as well as activities for all the guests.

The CCC was founded in 2011, and as each year passes, the club goes from strength to strength. Cricket however has existed in Rio since the mid-1800s, when a substantial part of the city’s population was of British descent. Emperor Dom Pedro II opened Rio’s first official cricket pitch in 1860 on Rua Paysandu in Laranjeiras.
