Brazil’s new tyranny: Moraes wants to censor 30-year-old newspaper in Espírito Santo and take it off the air

Brazil’s self-proclaimed censorship czar Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), wants to remove from the air the online newspaper Folha do Espírito Santo, which has more than 30 years of history, writes BSM in its latest report.

Ironically, it is not Bolsonaro who has been accused for years by the left of attacking freedom of the press in Brazil, but it is precisely this same left that, using its henchman Moraes, is now considering silencing ‘inconvenient’ newspapers.

To order the censorship, Moraes relied on his own invention, created out of thin air, called the Investigation of Fake News, a tool that can be used to take out of circulation anyone you don’t like by the stroke of a pen.

According to Moraes’s decision, search and seizure warrants are to be served at 10 addresses of people and a company in Espírito Santo.

In addition, Moraes ordered that four people be arrested, among them, the journalist Jackson Rangel Vieira, an employee of the Folha do Espírito Santo, pastor Fabiano Oliveira; the micro-entrepreneur Maxcione Pitangui de Abreu; and the councilman Armandinho Fontoura, future mayor of Vitória.

The search and seizure warrants were also executed in the homes and offices of state deputies Capitão Assumção (PL) and Carlos Von (DC). Both can not give interviews, have their bank accounts blocked, and can not use social networks.

The deputies are wearing electronic anklets.
