Brazil: “The omissions do not seem to have been just the local police”, says jurist

When commenting on the acts of depredation that took place last Sunday (8) in Brasília, the jurist Ives Gandra Filho suggested that the violent protests are being used politically and questioned the blaming of some agents, apparently chosen to cover up the responsibility of others.

“Nothing justifies the vandalism that has been seen. But the omissions do not seem to have been restricted to the local police. Like any social phenomenon, one should look for all the concauses and not want to reduce culpability to a single cause. Retired STF minister Marco Aurélio, in an interview with Globo, warned of this, seeking the most remote causes, in addition to the close ones, of what happened. Without getting to them, it is not possible to solve the problem that afflicts us. And, repression breeds reaction. The path of dialogue has always seemed to me the best. Even in times of crisis”, said the jurist on Instagram, this Tuesday (10).

In the publication, Ives Gandra also raised questions about the late performance of the Ministry of Justice (MJ) in the Lula da Silva government, since on Monday (10) it became known that Minister Flávio Dino had been warned of the possibility of invasion in advance and did nothing to prevent or minimize damage.

“Many unanswered questions”, said the jurist when exposing his questions.

1 – In a lightning operation, the Planalto was cleaned, but why weren’t they so quick to preserve it, with the presidential guard behind the Palace?

2 – If the MJ had received advance notice of the risks with the demonstration, why didn’t it take any action?

3 – If black blocs that infiltrated the demonstration were discovered, why the arrest of thousands of people who were in front of the Army HQ and who did not participate in any depredation on the Esplanade?
